(Yicai Global) Sept. 25 -- As the UK modernizes its traditional red telephone booths, a new kind of booth in China's eastern Shandong province is offering up Wi-Fi and mobile charging services.
A traditional phone booth in the city of Jinan was recently transformed to include four charging ports and a Wi-Fi service, Fast Technology reported on Sept. 25. Citizens can charge smartphones and enjoy free internet access in the booth.
As smartphones become more and more popular, phone booths are not being used as much. The UK recently ran a scheme encouraging people to purchase its famous red phone booths and use them for other purposes. Owners use them to sell coffee and sunglasses, run a community library or even an internet cafe. The country is now looking to introduce a run of new booths which offer Wi-Fi services.
