(Yicai) Dec. 4 -- Tencent Holdings has not disbanded its Honor of Kings: Breaking Dawn video game project, an insider at the Chinese internet giant said following rumors.
The Breaking Dawn project will undergo some adjustments, with further investment expected to be made only after Tencent chooses a new development direction, the person told Yicai.
Tencent unveiled Breaking Dawn at the Honor of Kings’ fifth-anniversary event in 2020. The battle royale game, which received licensing in June last year, is being developed by Tencent unit TiMi Studio Group. Breaking Dawn is expected to launch next month, according to Apple’s App Store.
Recent online rumors said Tencent had dissolved the project. The Shenzhen-based company said yesterday that it will suspend the game’s beta testing on Dec. 6 and disable payment functions because the team decided to readjust the product after extensive testing and feedback.
Some of the team’s members are considering moving to other projects, with employees free to choose their next steps within the company, the insider said. The project originally had more than 200 staff.
TiMi Studio is a key player in Tencent’s gaming division, responsible for global successes such as Honor of Kings and Call of Duty: Mobile.
