(Yicai Global) Dec. 1 -- Japan will showcase its tourist attractions, culture and food in China on the Weibo social media app this month to help Chinese tourists make good itineraries when visiting Japan, its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassy in China announced on the Twitter-like platform yesterday.
The ranks of Chinese tourists traveling to Japan have drastically thinned amid the ever-widening net cast by the Covid-19 pandemic, local media Kyodo News reported today. The Japanese government hopes to work with domestic companies to pitch the nation’s products and lift exports. It also hopes more Chinese tourists will land in the island country post-pandemic.
Some 50 Japanese local governments will take part in the Weibo promotion, posting videos extolling the charms of various localities. Japan also plans to broadcast live from Honshu’s Shizuoka prefecture -- home of the archipelago nation’s highest peak Mt. Fuji -- and Kochi prefecture on the southern island of Shikoku, famed for its majestic scenery and superb beaches.
The promotional shoots by the Japanese local governments will be posted to the Weibo account of the Japanese Embassy to introduce two or three locations each day. The Japanese government also plans to deploy Chinese internet celebrities to tout Japanese cuisine and other specialty products in Qingdao, Dalian and Chengdu.
Japan eased its counter-pandemic measures for visiting Chinese businesspersons starting yesterday. Arrivals from China with negative nucleic acid test results may now skip the normal 14-day quarantine.
