Didi Chuxing Denies Carpooling Restart, Rebuts User Screenshot Didi Chuxing Denies Carpooling Restart, Rebuts User Screenshot

(Yicai Global) April 25 -- Didi Chuxing, China's biggest ride-hailing company, has refuted a report that it has started testing its revamped carpooling service with some users.

Some users may have been able to see the function of the ride-hitching service again on the platform, but this is a technical bug that does not allow them to book rides, the Beijing-based firm told The Beijing News. The company is still fixing the product, it added.

A user revealed a screenshot on April 23 that seemed to show that Didi Chuxing is testing its revamped carpool product, suggesting quite a similar interface and pricing from earlier, online news outlet Jiemian reported.

The carpooling button that offered lower rates but also compromised the vetting of drivers was removed from the platform last August after drivers killed two female passengers, which caused a public outcry regarding insufficient safety features.

Didi Chuxing is recalibrating the service with a host of safety measures, including curfews, limits of routes, and hidden profile pictures, Executive Zhang Rui wrote in an open letter posted on the firm's official Weibo account earlier this month.
