(Yicai) June 20 – Black Myth: Wukong, an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Game Science in which China's Tencent Holdings owns a 5 percent stake, has ranked first on the wishlist chart of digital distribution platform Steam for two consecutive weeks.
The physical and digital versions of Black Myth: Wukong launched pre-purchases on June 8 and 11, respectively, receiving 1.1 million orders, with the standard version priced at USD59.99 and the digital deluxe edition at USD69.99. The game quickly topped the Steam global wishlist chart and the ranking on Tencent's WeGame.
Black Myth: Wukong, based on the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, will launch on Windows and Sony's PlayStation on August 20, with no release date for Microsoft's Xbox yet.
The physical deluxe version of Black Myth: Wukong will cost USD169.99, with 20,000 copies made, while 10,000 collector's edition sets will be available at USD399.99 each. The two versions will likely bring revenue of CNY36.4 million (USD5 million).
However, the high pre-orders failed to boost the stock of Zhejiang Publishing & Media, the publisher of 'Black Myth: Wukong.' The Hangzhou-based firm's shares [SHA: 601921] fell 3.3 percent to CNY8.42 (USD1.16) apiece in Shanghai today, dropping for the fourth straight day.
