(Yicai Global) Feb. 18 -- China Post has opened its first coffee shop in a revamped post office in the coastal city of Xiamen, southeastern Fujian province, as the state-owned postal service operator continues to diversify its investment portfolio.
There is now a Post Coffee in the newly renovated post office at the Xiamen International Trade Center, the coffee shop said on its Weibo account on Feb. 16. Customers can enjoy an aromatic cup of coffee while affixing stamps to their mail.
In recent years, China Post has opened a tea shop, a drugstore, a bar and a convenience store to name a few. Tianyancha statistics show that 43 percent of China Post’s investments are in non-postal sectors such as sports, hospitality and catering.
Post Coffee has already launched a miniprogram on instant messenger WeChat for promotions and other advanced features. The miniprogram is operated by Shanghai Zhongyu Kaye Management and Consulting, which was set up in September last year. Although it does not share any equities with China Post, its registered capital jumped sharply last month to CNY1 million (USD158,053) from CNY20 million.
