Tsinghua University, another prestigious university in China, took the 25th spot on the rankings released today, the third-highest in Asia but down 11 places from last year. The top Asian university is the National University of Singapore, ranking eighth.

Three other Chinese universities made the top 100, with Zhejiang University at 44th, Fudan University at 50th, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University at 51st. The list includes 1,500 universities from 104 locations, and China has the third most with 71, behind the US with 199 and the UK with 91.

Regarding research influence, China had the most universities in the top 50 with 13, and the top 100 with 18, but not a single one made the top 10. Five Chinese educational institutions ranked top 100 by academic reputation -- Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhejiang University.

The QS World Universities Rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty student ratio, international faculty ratio, and international students ratio. This year’s rankings included three new metrics: sustainability, employment outcomes, and international research network.
