(Yicai Global) March 19 -- Chinese handset maker Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp will collaborate with artificial intelligence startup SenseTime Group Ltd. to set up an augmented reality developer platform which provides AR solutions for mobile applications.
The AR platform will support different software architecture and hardware configurations with integration of AI technology, said OPPO, which announced the news on China's Twitter-like Weibo social network. The first applications available on the platform will be the e-commerce app of JD.Com Inc. and King of Glory, a mobile game Tencent Holdings Ltd. developed.
Formed in 2014 and backed by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., SenseTime is a unicorn that primarily researches computer vision and deep learning technology. The company completed a USD410 million series-B funding round and struck a strategic cooperation deal with international chip giant Qualcomm Inc. last year
Augmented reality technology adds images, videos and 3D models in the virtual world to real world scenes to realize the interaction and has a wide range of applications in the manufacturing, architectural design, entertainment, tourism and military fields.
