Princess Cruises Cancels This Year's Chinese Trips Amid Virus Ship Crisis in Japan Princess Cruises Cancels This Year's Chinese Trips Amid Virus Ship Crisis in Japan

(Yicai Global) Feb. 18 -- US leisure travel giant Carnival's Princess Cruises will suspend all Chinese mainland roundtrips this year after its Diamond Princess ship became a quarantine site for thousands of passengers, many of whom have contracted the new coronavirus.

Princess Cruises has not figured out next year's schedules yet, The Paper reported today, citing the California-headquartered firm's statement. This year's halt is a result of the continuous impact of the outbreak and prevention efforts, Chinese news outlet TMTPost reported yesterday.

The move comes after the Diamond Princess confirmed over 450 infections on the ship docked near Yokohama, which is nearly 90 percent of Japan's total, Japan Broadcasting reported today. The cruise that set sail with nearly 2,700 passengers has been under quarantine for almost two weeks.

However, some of the cruise line's multi-destination trips may still stop at its Chinese mainland home port, Shanghai, this year, the company's statement added.

Carnival's shares [NYSE: CCL] fell 1.39 percent to USD42.60 on Feb. 14.
