(Yicai Global) Nov. 7 -- ZTE today announced plans to strengthen its strategic investments into the transportation and automotive market.
The Shenzhen-based Chinese multinational said it would develop both roadside and on-board units to support 3rd Generation Partnership Project Release 114 LTE Vehicle-to-Everything, or LTE-V2X, featuring the Qualcomm C-V2X chipset solution.
LTE-V2X, also referred to as C-V2X, is a global solution for vehicle-to-everything communications that is designed to improve automotive safety, automated driving and traffic efficiency. With its strong evolutionary path towards 5G New Radio, LTE-V2X is supported by both telecoms and automotive ecosystems, including the 5G Automotive Association, China Electronics News reported.
5GAA has over 100 global members including ZTE and Qualcomm. LTE-V2X supports direct communications to enable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) communications on the 5.9 GHz ITS band.
The LTE-V2X-based RSUs and OBUs that were introduced by ZTE will help improve China's traffic management and safety, said Nakul Duggal, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies.
Duggal added that his company is excited to extend its long-standing relationship with ZTE in the connected vehicle sector to the broader intelligent transportation market. The cooperation with ZTE is a significant step to support the commercial deployments of LTE-V2X technology starting as early as next year, Duggal said.
