(Yicai Global) Feb. 23 -- Zhongying Science and Technology surged 16.6 percent today and other Chinese millimeter-wave radar and component makers also made strong gains after US electric car startup Tesla confirmed that it will install built-in, high-resolution millimeter-wave radars in its vehicles.
Zhongying Science [SHE:300936] finished the day at CNY37.20 (USD5.39), while Shentong Technology [SHA:605228] hit the exchange-imposed limit of 10 percent at CNY10.67 (USD1.55).
Tesla plans to add a new radar to its self-driving hardware 4.0, according to a file made public by the US Federal Communications Commission.
The 4.0 is likely to refer to 4D millimeter-wave radar, CITIC Securities said. In China, 4D millimeter-wave radar is already installed on SAIC Motor’s Feifan R7 and Changan Automobile’s Deep Blue SL03, and the technology is expected to become more widely used in future.
Zhongying Science’s ZYF-6000 series high-frequency copper clad laminate can be applied in the field of automotive millimeter-wave radars, the Changzhou, eastern Jiangsu province-based company said.
OFILM, Lianchuang Electronics and Union Optech have also said that they produce a number of millimeter-wave radar products and possess such technical reserves. And Dongjian Technology said that its electric doors use millimeter-wave radars, realizing the integration of millimeter-wave radars and side opening door systems.
The global millimeter-wave radar market may be worth CNY38.4 billion (USD5.6 billion) by 2025, Guosen Securities said, which would give it an annual compound growth rate of 25.5 percent. The size of the China market could be CNY14.9 billion by 2025 and the number of these radars could reach 42.5 million.
