(Yicai Global) Sept. 20 -- ZhongAn Information & Technology Services Co. (ZhongAn Technology) has formed a science and technology alliance with other firms to apply blockchain, artificial intelligence and anti-counterfeiting technology to rural free-range chicken farming to provide consumers with safer food.
The firm created the alliance, which is the first of its kind in China, with Shanghai Lianmo Information Technology Co., Guoyuan Agricultural Insurance Co., and others and began technological chicken breeding in Chaan in Anhui province, Jiemian News reported.
Zhongan Technology earlier announced that it would use blockchain, AI and anti-counterfeiting technology in rural chicken breeding, and work with Shanghai Lianmo and other partners to build the Bubuji brand, aimed at providing safer food for consumers.
The whole ecological blockchain records the entire process, from baby chicks to adult chickens, their slaughter and transport, right until they're on the dining table. The chain cannot be tampered with, which guarantees data cannot be modified once it has been recorded, said Zhang Xiang, chief operating officer at Zhongan Technology.
Over 200 farms in Anhui, Henan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu and Hainan provinces have expressed intention to cooperate to date. By 2020, some 2,500 farms will be set up with Bubuji nationwide, with farmers using the system earning CNY2.7 billion (USD415 million) over the next three years, an insider said.
ZhongAn Technology is a wholly-owned subsidiary of ZhongAn Online P&C Insurance Co. [HKG:6060], which is currently in the process of listing. The subsidiary focuses on blockchain, artificial intelligence, Big Data and cloud computing.
