(Yicai Global) Oct. 20 -- Zhejiang Viewshine Intelligent Meter Stock Co. [SHE:002849], which produces smart gas meters, has reached a cooperation agreement with state-owned telecoms operator China Telecom Corp. Ltd. [HKG:0728; NYSE:CHA]'s Hangzhou unit in order to promote the integrated development of the Internet of Things and gas meters.
The pair struck a deal in order to formulate industry standards, research related technology and build a network of smart gas meters, the meter maker said on Oct. 19. China Telecom will offer up its Narrow Band Internet of Things (NBIoT) technology for the partnership.
NBIoT is an important branch of the Internet of Things. It uses a narrow bandwidth range which can cut costs and improve power efficiency to increase battery life in devices using the technology.
Zhejiang Viewshine will also team up with the telecoms giants in cloud computing and Big Data, and carry out a smart gas meter pilot project, incorporating the Internet of Things, in certain regions.
The cooperation will create advancements in gas meters and promote technological innovation in manufacturing, the statement added.
