(Yicai Global) March 21 -- Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp. said it will set up its second manufacturing plant in India in partnership with Taiwan phone maker Foxconn Technology Group. Once completed the second production unit will bring Xiaomi's Indian capacity to one phone per second and create many jobs for locals.
The plant will be in the eastern state of Andhra Pradesh, the Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported today, citing Manu Jain, general manager of Xiaomi India.
Xiaomi started to localize its production in India shortly after entering the Indian market in July 2014. Its production lines, co-developed with Foxconn, were put into operation in August 2015. Some 75 percent of Xiaomi phones sold in Indian were locally manufactured as of last March. That ratio will rise to 95 percent when the new facility starts production.
