Xiaomi to Launch Pure Electric SUV in Mid-2025 Xiaomi to Launch Pure Electric SUV in Mid-2025

(Yicai) Dec. 10 -- Xiaomi’s second car will be a pure electric sport utility vehicle, according to the website of China’s industry ministry, while the electronics giant’s chairman said the car will launch around the middle of next year.

The forthcoming Xiaomi YU7 resembles the Ferrari Purosangue, information on the ministry's website showed yesterday. It will launch in June or July 2025, Lei Jun, who is also the Beijing-based Xiaomi’s chief executive, said on Weibo later the same day.

Xiaomi Auto's first model, the SU7, competes with Tesla's Model 3, while the YU7 will take on the US automaker's Model Y, one of the most popular electric SUVs in the market, according to industry insiders.

The YU7 will use a ternary lithium-ion battery produced by Jiangsu Contemporary Amperex Technology, a unit of the Chinese battery titan. Its motor will have a peak power of between 220 kilowatts and 288 kW and will be equipped with an auto event data recorder.

On Nov. 18, Xiaomi Auto said deliveries of the SU7 had topped its original annual target of 100,000, so it was raising the goal to 130,000. The carmaker handed over 20,000 vehicles for the second straight month in November.
