Xiaomi SU7 Owners Report Parking System Bug After Bumps End in Costly Repairs Xiaomi SU7 Owners Report Parking System Bug After Bumps End in Costly Repairs

(Yicai) Nov. 22 -- Owners of Xiaomi SU7s, the Chinese tech giant’s first electric vehicle, have reported a malfunction in the car’s automatic parking system that resulted in damage and pricey repair jobs. Xiaomi has yet to provide an official explanation for the cause of the fault.

The incidents happened between the evening of Nov. 14 and the early hours of Nov. 15 after Xiaomi’s over-the-air software update for the SU7 on Oct. 30, which included adding the automatic parking assistance function to the car’s standard edition.

“Since I picked up the car in April, I’ve been using the automatic parking function in a fixed parking spot more than a hundred times,” Sun Peng, an owner from Beijing, told Yicai today. “After the system update, I used it more than 10 times, until Nov. 14, when it suddenly malfunctioned and caused a collision.”

Other owners across China said their cars also had parking function glitches on the same day. An online group whose member’s all shared the same experience has 70 members so far, Sun said, and most have already filled out forms about the damage caused.

Xiaomi has blamed a program error, but has not yet elaborated on why so many SU7s had trouble on the same day, Sun noted, adding that the Beijing-based firm reimbursed him for the CNY12,000 (USD1,655) he had to pay to get his repaired. Xiaomi also gave him CNY150 (USD21) of owner points as compensation.

Xiaomi began selling the SU7 in March, with prices starting at CNY215,900 (USD29,790) for the standard edition, going up to CNY245,900 for the SU7 Pro and CNY299,900 for the SU7 Max. All of the vehicles that had the parking glitch on Nov. 14 were standard models, according to their owners.

On Nov. 18, the company said SU7 deliveries had topped 100,000, and as a result it was raising the annual target to 130,000.
