Xiaomi Restructures to Form China-Focused Team Xiaomi Restructures to Form China-Focused Team

(Yicai Global) Dec. 13 -- Smartphone maker Xiaomi has combined its sales and service department, creating a new China regional team in an effort to focus greater effort on its home market.

Xiaomi also named Wang Chuan, co-founder and senior vice president, as the new China team's president, the Beijing-based company said an internal email.

The restructuring follows last month's announcement that almost 44 percent of Xiaomi's CNY22.3 billion (USD3.24 billion) in revenue came from overseas in the third quarter.

Xiaomi also split its sales and operations department, with one section now responsible for sales and operation of mobile phones and the other taking charge of sales and operation of televisions and other products in the China ecological chain. Experts say the move reveals the enhanced importance of ecological chain products to the group.

Shares of the company [HKG1810], which went public in Hong Kong in July, rose 1.8 percent to day to close at HKD13.76 (USD1.76). That's still 19 percent below its initial public offering price of HKD17 per share.

Xiaomi also reappointed Wang Lingming, the original vice president and general manager of the sales and service department, as vice president of its international department to enhance overseas development and expansion.

The group has now made three major personnel changes since going public. It promoted Yan Kesheng, former vice president of its mobile phone department, to group vice president on July 23.

Two months ago, it announced the establishment of two new departments of staff and organization and reorganized four others, namely, the television department, the ecological chain department, the operating system department and the interactive entertainment department, with 10 new business departments available at that time.

Xiaomi's third-quarter earnings were better than expected, with operating revenue and net profit increasing 49.1 percent and 17.3 percent annually to CNY50.8 billion and CNY2.9 billion, respectively, the firm said on Nov. 19 in its first financial report since listing.

Founder and Chief Executive Lei Jun attributed the remarkable performance to the series of strategies the group has implemented, including strengthening high-end market performance, accelerating the construction of new retail channels, and the focus on artificial intelligence research, development and application.
