(Yicai Global) Sept. 6 -- Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co. and Google Inc. have released a new mobile phone, the Mi A1, for INR14,999 (USD234) in India, marking Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone.

The firms will sell the handset in more than 40 markets worldwide, Xiaomi said at a press briefing on Sept. 5. These include Indonesia, Vietnam, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Mexico, Hong Kong and Taiwan, CNR Network reported.

The Mi A1 is an extension of the company's long-term partnership with Google, said Wang Xiang, Xiaomi senior vice president, adding that the Mi phones equipped with Android One will bring a new experience to global users.

With a 5.5-inch curved glass screen and at 7.3 millimeters in thickness, the handset comes in three colors, black, gold and rose gold. It has a full metal body, rear fingerprint recognition and a dual camera with wide-angle and distant lenses.

The phone will be sold nationwide in India from Sept. 12. Users can buy from Xiaomi online or in store or from authorized dealers. The report did not mention the handset's sale price or release date in other countries.
