(Yicai Global) Oct. 10 -- China Xi’an Railway Administration has instituted China’s first run-on-demand trains providing customized services to passengers in an initiative to cope with peak flowback of travelers returning from their National Day Holiday journeys.
The trains are tailored to suit passengers’ required departure and arrival times, and can even change the ratio of carriages with hard and soft seats and berths, takefoto.cn reported Oct. 9.
The ‘run-on-demand platform’ lets passengers input their destination, date and seat class on the internet. The rail administration then runs a train when the number of passengers reaches more than half the quantity of seats available.
Passengers can access the platform via their personal Sina Weibo [NASDAQ:WB] social messaging account or by scanning a QR code. The railroad will then determines whether to arrange extra trains, explained Jiao Li, a conductor in Xi’an Station.
