(Yicai Global) June 8 -- WUS Printed Circuit, which supplies printed circuit boards to Huawei Technologies and others, plans to spend USD280 million building a new production base in Thailand to help overseas clients sidestep geopolitical and trade risks.

The plant, destined for an industrial park in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, will design, make, and sell PCBs, Kunshan-based WUS said late yesterday. The project is subject to approval by the Thai and Chinese governments.

Buying land for the project, construction work, and installation of equipment will commence in the second half of this year, WUS said, noting that the plant is expected to achieve a certain level of mass production in the first half of 2025.

As an emerging market, Thailand has advantages in land, plant, manpower, and taxation and its supply chain for PCBs is constantly improving, meeting the requirements of the company’s production and operations, WUS said.

As most of the firm’s production is located in China, so the Thai factory will help overseas clients scale down logistics and ease capacity risks, the company said.

Shares of WUS [SHE: 002463] closed down 1.4 percent at CNY16.04 (USD2.40) in Shenzhen today.
