(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Wenzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau has officially opened up its port visa business, allowing foreigners entering the country via Wenzhou Airport in Zhejiang province to access on-arrival visas in emergency circumstances.

China's Ministry of Public Security approved the new process to make life easier for overseas visitors who urgently need to enter the country for business, investment or tourism, local news outlet Wenzhou Online reported. Two cities in the province already offer such services to air travelers: Hangzhou and Ningbo.

Port visas, or 'visas on arrival' allow foreigners to apply for a visa directly after arriving at a participating location. Normally, they would need to go through Chinese diplomatic missions, consular offices or authorized overseas agencies before traveling to China.

International tourism revenue in China increased by 5.6 percent annually to USD120 billion last year, with foreigners contributing more than half, per data from China National Tourism Administration. The agency predicts that the figure will increase by another 5 percent this year.

The Port Visa Endorsement Office under Wenzhou's Public Security Bureau will issue visas to foreigners who urgently need entry for humanitarian reasons; overseas visitors who are invited to enter the country for emergency business or construction repairs or have other urgent need for entry and supporting evidence; and approved foreign tourist groups.

The visas will all be single entry and valid for 30 days.
