(Yicai Global) Nov. 1 -- WeChat Pay Hong Kong (HK), a payment function based on the instant communication platform of Tencent Holdings Ltd. [HKG:0700], WeChat, now applies to all major spending scenarios in Hong Kong.

Starting from today, consumers in Hong Kong can use WeChat Pay HK to scan QR codes to complete online and offline payment in various spending scenarios. Taxies, kiosks, supermarkets and chain stores in Hong Kong can also use WeChat Pay HK to charge payment.

WeChat Pay HK yesterday announced the roll-out of three new functions in Hong Kong: quick payment code, charging via QR codes, and WeChat Pay counter. The quick payment code function is designed for Hong Kong-based restaurants, supermarkets, and chain stores, allowing them to connect WeChat Pay HK to their POS retail systems for charging purposes. Charging via QR codes is designed for small shops run by individuals or family stores, allowing consumers to pay by scanning QR codes without the POS devices, Xinhuanet.com reported.

Norman Tam, general manager of the international business group at Tencent, said WeChat Pay HK is expected to introduce WeChat Pay counter function in December 2017. It is a small program of WeChat designed for small- and medium-sized enterprises. Local stores in Hong Kong can use this program to reach more users for marketing.

WeChat Pay HK's cooperation with stores covers almost all walks of life, including shopping, catering, traffic, and courier services, bringing great convenience to Hong Kong citizens, said Nelson Chow, Chief Fintech Officer of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).
