(Yicai Global) November 16 -- Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has won a contract from a Shanghai-based leasing company under the Bank of Communications to construct 10 large bulk carriers, which marks its biggest order this year.

Waigaoqiao and Bank of Communications Financial Leasing penned a contract regarding the group of 180,000-ton capesize bulk freighters, China State Shipbuilding, Waigaoqiao's parent said in a statement yesterday. The value of the order is CNY3.6 billion (USD518.8 million). The firm did not disclose the delivery date.

Earlier this month, Waigaoqiao got another major contract for building two Vista-class Carnival cruise ships for Chinese-American joint venture called CSSC Carnival, each priced at USD770 million. Since last year, the shipping and bulk carrier market has rebounded to provide an opportunity for Waigaoqiao to obtain these large orders, the parent of the Shanghai-based firm added.
