(Yicai Global) Sept. 19 – Ms. Zhu Ting, star player of the Chinese women's volleyball team, voiced her readiness to join the Turkish Vakifbank club as a player in Turkey's women's league, thus kicking off Ms. Zhu's professional career.
Her outstanding performance won the 22-year-old the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the Rio Olympic volleyball tournament. Vakifbank club sent representatives to China to sign Ms. Zhu before the Games, but she shunned them until afterwards.
Per the contract, Ms. Zhu's annual salary is USD1.2 million (EUR1.1 million), second only to the EUR1.2 million earned by Kim Yeon-Koung, a South Korean playing for Fenerbahce club, another big name in the Turkish League.
The Turkish women's volleyball league is at the highest level of women's volleyball leagues in the world. A strong team in Turkey and Europe, Vakifbank club ranked first in the Turkish women's volleyball league in the 2015/2016 season, and has won the Women's Volleyball Club World Cup once and the European Women's Volleyball Champions League twice.
