US Lighting Makers Raise Prices as Trump Tariffs Boost Supply Chain Costs, Expert Says US Lighting Makers Raise Prices as Trump Tariffs Boost Supply Chain Costs, Expert Says

(Yicai) April 8 -- Several US lighting manufacturers have hiked product prices due to the "reciprocal tariffs" on all US trading partners recently announced by President Donald Trump, with a Chinese industry expert noting China's role due to it being a major producer of related key parts.

The new tariffs will boost the production costs of US light-emitting diode lighting manufacturers because China is a leading producer of chips, drivers, and other key components, the expert told Yicai.

"The new tariff policies affect the subsequent exports of Chinese LED lighting to the US and bring uncertain development risks to local lighting makers," the person said. The tariffs' future impact on the global LED lighting sector requires further observations, the person added.

Atlanta-based Acuity Brands issued its second notice to customers and channel partners regarding price adjustment within a month. After first increasing prices effective March 31, the firm had to raise them again for certain products, including lighting fixtures and electronic products, starting yesterday due to ongoing changes in tariff policies, it said.

Acuity has promptly taken appropriate measures after understanding the latest tariff policies, Chief Executive Neil Ashe told investors. It is unclear how long the new tariffs will be implemented, but the company will make related adjustments based on that, he noted, adding that around 20 percent of its products are made in the US.

RAB Lighting, another lighting manufacturer, said that the latest tariff policies of the US government have significantly impacted its supply chain costs, exceeding what it can fully absorb. As a result, the New York-based firm will raise prices effective May 3, with specific increases varying depending on the product and the impact of the levies, it added.
