US Decision to Blacklist Uniview Is Groundless, Chinese Video Surveillance Firm Says US Decision to Blacklist Uniview Is Groundless, Chinese Video Surveillance Firm Says

(Yicai) Dec. 11 -- The US government’s decision to include Uniview Technologies in the country’s so-called Entity List, which prevents US firms from selling it their software and hardware, is without factual basis, the Chinese video surveillance equipment manufacturer said today.

Uniview has never been party to an investigation or evidence collection exercise by any US government agency, the Hangzhou-based private company said on instant messenger WeChat, adding that the US government should reconsider.

Uniview and another security equipment maker, Beijing Zhongdun Security Technology Group, were put on the trade restriction list yesterday for allegedly enabling human rights violations. Such violations include high-technology surveillance targeted at the general population, Uyghurs, and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups, the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security said in a filing.

In the 13 years since Uniview was established, it has always adhered to the laws and regulations of the countries in which it does business, and it has always enforced internationally accepted business ethics and compliance standards, the firm said. As a leading global technology company, it is committed to ‘technology for good.’

Uniview continues to operate as normal and the incident will not have an adverse impact on its operations, it said. Uniview remains capable of providing uninterrupted supply of its products and high-quality technical support to global customers.
