(Yicai Global) May 14 -- China's ambassador to the US has warned Chinese firms that the US is attempting to restrict access to normal exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.

"If a country's foreign policy is dominated by hostility, fear and suspicion, it will be very dangerous," Ambassador Cui Tiankai said at a seminar organized by Washington thinktank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US. "The US is trying to set up a "glass wall" between the two countries as a means of posing obstacles to normal exchanges and cooperation and it has even become suspicious of Chinese students and scholars."

Cui hopes that this dangerous trend will not become part of the mainstream of American society. The two nations should strengthen communication and dialogue and work together to eliminate the "deficit in understanding," the ambassador added.

Next year, China and the United States will usher in the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Forty years ago, China and the US came together because of their common strategic interests. Since then, great changes have taken place in both the two countries and the world, while areas of cooperation and common interests have continued to expand, Cui added.

As the interests of all countries in the world are closely inter-connected and inter-dependent and no country can be isolated from others, China hopes to work with the US to build a new type of large-nation relations featuring mutual respect and mutually-beneficial cooperation, without seeking conflicts and confrontation to become partners and work together with all countries in the world to build a community of common destiny, Cui continued.

When talking about China's recent grand commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Carl Marx, Cui said that Marxism is the long-standing guiding ideology of the Chinese Communist Party. The party has constantly integrated the basic principles of Marxism with China's actual conditions and has developed a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It is worth noting that, since the 2008 financial crisis, more and more people in the US and other western countries have also looked again at Marxism and its practical significance in today's western society.
