(Yicai Global) Aug. 26 -- Tickets for the soft opening of Universal Studios’ theme park in Beijing, its biggest to date, are changing hands for as much as CNY5,000 (USD770) each, a 66 percent mark up, according Securities Daily.
They were available only to a small group of invited guests for CNY3,000 per ticket, the report said, adding that the most expensive ticket for Shanghai Disney Resort is CNY699 (USD108).
The Beijing police said on Aug. 21 that they had detained four scalpers for reselling the tickets. Universal Beijing Resort previously said the tickets were not for sale to the general public and urged people to beware of false information.
The theme park is Universal Studios’ fifth and will open its doors on Sept. 1 for a trial period, Universal Beijing Resort said on its WeChat account on Aug. 24. To comply with Covid-19 prevention and control measures, the park will test operate with just a limited number of guests. The official opening date is yet to be announced.
The Beijing theme park is Universal Studios’ third in Asia after those in Tokyo and Singapore. The 200,000 square-meter resort is backed by California-based film studio Universal Pictures, the Beijing Tourism Group and the Beijing Cultural Investment Group.
