(Yicai Global) July 17 -- Tropical storm Talim hit China’s southern coastal areas today, making it the first to make landfall this year and leading to some flights and high-speed train services being canceled and tourist attractions closed.
All flights were grounded at Haikou Meilan International Airport and Qionghai Boao Airport, two of the three main air hubs in Hainan province. Sanya Phoenix International Airport called off more than 100 flights, and bus services from the airport to Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay were withdrawn.
Guangdong province also saw many flights canceled. Among them, Zhuhai Jinwan Airport grounded all 79 today, while only three operated normally at Zhanjiang Wuchuan Airport, with the remaining 54 shelved.
In addition, China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group announced that it will not run trains that pass through Jiangmen to Zhanjiang, Hainan Ring Island, the outskirts of Haikou, and the Guangzhou to Maoming section between midnight and 1 p.m. tomorrow.
Many scenic spots in Hainan, including Haikou Volcanic Cluster Global Geopark and Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden, were closed today. Also, high-risk recreational programs such as high-altitude tours and low-altitude flights at all tourist attractions in Sanya city have been suspended since noon yesterday.
Trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange was also halted today due to the typhoon.
