China's Economic Resilience Reflects in Food Security, Robotics, Silver Economy, CPPCC Members Say China's Economic Resilience Reflects in Food Security, Robotics, Silver Economy, CPPCC Members Say

(Yicai) March 5 -- Members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference interpreted the resilience and confidence of China's economy around food security, robotics, and the silver economy in the country.

China's grain output exceeded 700 billion kilograms for the first time last year, Yan Jianbing, a member of the CPPCC and president of Huazhong Agricultural University, said at a "Member Channel" collective interview activity of the CPPCC's national committee yesterday. Per capita grain possession topped 500 kilograms, above the international food security level, he added.

Food security is of great importance to China, Yan noted, adding that one way to solve problems with the availability of enough food for everyone in a country to live healthy lives is with the grain in the ground and another is with technology. China leads the world by the overall strength of its agricultural science and technology innovation, which is inseparable from the contribution of relevant workers, he pointed out.

Yan said that he and his team are committed to increasing the protein content of corn, with every one percentage point increase in this level equivalent to 290 tons for China's annual growth in protein, which can reduce soybean imports by seven to eight million tons. Over the past few years, the team has allied with firms to cultivate several corn varieties with a protein count of more than 10 percent and plant them over 164 acres, he added.

The payload capacity of industrial robots in China has been more than half of the world's total in the past three years, while humanoid robot tech has developed rapidly, said Qiao Hong, a member of the CPPCC and director of a multimodal artificial intelligence system laboratory.

Robotics will next make its way on a bigger and more important stage for China, so the mass production of robot systems and the productivity, reliability, stability, versatility, intelligence, and, most importantly, safety will be taken into consideration, according to Qiao, who is also an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The silver economy is an important area where China can tap its consumption potential, noted Jin Li, a member of the CPPCC and vice president of the Southern University of Science and Technology. The needs of the elderly are changing from survival to development, including demand for clothing, food, housing, and transportation, as well as for health care services, leisure, and entertainment, he added.

Supply and demand show massive potential in the silver economy, Jin pointed out. China's silver economy is expected to reach CNY30 trillion (USD4.13 trillion) by 2035 and provide at least 100 million jobs by 2050, he said, adding that with its vast opportunities, it will inject new momentum into the country's economic development.
