(Yicai Global) Nov. 16 -- China's state-owned Tsinghua Unigroup Co. plans to invest CNY100 billion (USD15.1 billion) to build five technology bases for 5G and the Internet of Things in Dongguan, Guangdong province, financial news outlet Securities Times reported on Nov. 15.

The semiconductor firm will build a 5G research institute, southern headquarters for its cloud unit, a research and development base for solid state drives, a research and application center for the Internet of Things and a base and sales center for smart vehicle chips.

Tsinghua yesterday penned a deal with Dongguan's municipal government, home to the company's southern headquarters, under which the firm will invest heavily in the region to turn it into a 'cloud' city.

Tsinghua Unigroup, 51-percent owned by Tsinghua Holdings Corp. Ltd. and 49-percent owned by Beijing Jiankun Investment Group, engages in information technology, particularly memory chip manufacturing, the mobile internet and cloud computing.
