(Yicai Global) Dec. 12 -- A travel tracking card, that traces the movements of people in China over the past two weeks, will soon be discontinued, along with a number of other Covid-19 control measures, as China changes tactics in its handling of the pandemic.

The Communication Big Data Trip Tracking Card, which was introduced in March 2020 as one of the tools used to battle the spread of the novel coronavirus, will no longer operate from tomorrow, the service provider said on its WeChat account.

The itinerary card would sync with the government’s Health QR codes to show if users had recently travelled to areas at medium or high-risk of Covid-19. Since June 29, though, the Trip Tracking Card no longer displayed if people had visited such areas and on July 8, the recording period was reduced to seven days from 14.

Health QR codes are also fading from public life after three years as the government has said that people no longer need to display green health codes and negative Covid-19 tests when travelling between regions.

And a number of provincial-level regions have also stopped announcing medium and high-risk zones to the public even though there are new infections every day. These include Chongqing in southwest China, Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces in the east and Hebei province in the north.
