(Yicai Global) Sept. 2 -- Universal Studios has announced that the one-day ticket price for its theme park in Beijing, its biggest to date, which will open on Sept. 20 and is expected to boost tourism in and around China’s capital city.

Tickets will go on sale from Sept. 14 and are priced from CNY418 to CNY748 (USD65 to USD116), Universal Beijing Resort said in a statement yesterday. Low season tickets are the cheapest, while the most expensive are for special season, Yicai Global learned.

The cost of the park’s one-day dated tickets are lower than that of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood in the United States, and roughly the same as those of Universal Studios Japan. The prices are also lower than Shanghai Disney Resort’s corresponding tickets to be implemented early next year.

Universal Beijing Resort is Universal Studios’ third theme park in Asia after Tokyo and Singapore. The 200,000-square-meter park is backed by California-based film studio Universal Pictures, along with the Beijing Tourism Group and the Beijing Cultural Investment Group.

Its opening is showing a lot of promise for the badly-hit tourism sector as it recovers from the coronavirus pandemic, according to Fang Zeqian, an industry analyst at Trip.Com.

Compared with eastern and southern China, there are fewer theme parks in the north of the country, so Universal Beijing Resort will play a leading role in the tourism sector in Beijing and surrounding areas, she said. Fang expects activities, including tours around Beijing, North China tour packages, and Beijing Winter Olympic tours, to boom with the park’s opening.

Views of Universal Beijing Resort on Trip.Com’s platform surged 830 percent in the hour after its opening date was announced on Aug. 30, and views of hotels in the surrounding area also jumped 320 percent from a week ago, the online travel agency said. TravelGo and Qunar also experienced similar increases.
