Tibet's Medog County Prohibits Hiking Between Pai and Medog, Says Natural Disasters Likely to Strike Tibet's Medog County Prohibits Hiking Between Pai and Medog, Says Natural Disasters Likely to Strike

(Yicai Global) Oct. 18 -- Medog County, in China's autonomous region of Tibet, has again issued a notice prohibiting tourists from hiking into the area due to the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, Tibet Business Daily reported.

In May this year, the county's Linzhi city issued a public notice saying that tourists were prohibited from hiking into Medog from Pai Town, which is located in the city. However, a number of tourists ignored the warning and made the journey anyway.

Concerned about tourists' safety, the county issued another notice on Oct. 14, advising that the hiking path between Pai and Medog is in poor condition due to heavy rain and snowfall, and landslides, mudslides and avalanches are likely to occur. The road between the two areas is still under construction, the notice added, making hiking even more dangerous.

Rain has fallen heavily in Medog recently, creating tough conditions for hikers. Medog Lotus Holy Land Tourism Development Co. has re-issued a statement that warns people who ignore the public notice and hike into or out of the county will bear all responsibility for consequences of their actions.
