(Yicai Global) Dec. 9 -- Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world's largest manufacturer of scientific instruments, has opened a new facility in Hangzhou, China to meet local and overseas demand for biologics and sterile development and manufacturing capabilities.
The 80,000-square-meter facility can produce clinical and commercial drug substances and product capabilities, providing process development, cell line development, biologics drug solution production, and sterile fill-finish, the US firm said in a press release yesterday, without disclosing the cost. The base will also offer commercial packaging and labeling services in the future.
“Hangzhou is a strategic addition to our global pharma services network and the latest example of our commitment to meeting customer demands globally,” said Mike Shafer, head of Pharma Services at Thermo Fisher. “We continue to invest in capabilities to support the manufacturing needs of our customers, enabling them to serve more patients throughout the world.”
China is Thermo Fisher's second-largest market. The Massachusetts-based company has 10 manufacturing sites and three innovation and research centers in the country, with over 7,000 employees in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou.
In September, Thermo Fisher said it would invest in the Guangzhou Development Zone and set up Fisher Technology Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Scientific Base, which is expected to start up next year. The base will make high-value-added products, including high-end lab gear, analytical instruments, and lab consumables, the firm added.
