(Yicai Global) May 24 -- Tesla will hold a job fair in Shanghai next week to find 24 staff for its new plant in the city, which is scheduled to start production by the end of this year.

Tesla is looking to hire workers for six departments, including stamping, welding, painting, and assembly, the California-based electric carmaker said in a statement on its WeChat account yesterday. The job fair will be held on May 29.

Tesla's first overseas Gigafactory, which started being built in the Nanhui New City area of Shanghai in January, is the biggest foreign-funded manufacturing project in the eastern city's history. It also marks the first new energy vehicle project for which the municipal government canceled foreign ownership restrictions.

Tesla expects to make between 1,000 and 2,000 vehicles a week at the factory by the end of this year, Chief Executive Elon Musk said during an earlier earnings call.

Partial mass production will start by the end of this year, the firm's environmental impact assessment report from last October shows. The motor, power system and seat production lines are expected to be complete next March.

The foundations were laid last month. Equipment is expected to be installed this month once the structure is completed, Bloomberg News reported in April.
