(Yicai Global) Jan. 20 -- The spontaneous combustion of a Tesla Model 3 in an underground garage in Shanghai last night was probably caused by the battery pack being damaged by an impact to the underside of the car, the US electric car giant’s China office said today.

Based on the driver’s statement and an examination of the auto, preliminary findings point to the undercarriage hitting something and damaging the battery, the Shanghai-based unit said.

There were no injuries and the company is cooperating with the fire department’s investigations and helping the car owner to claim insurance, it added.
