(Yicai Global) May 18 -- The cloud computing unit of China's internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. will partner China High-Speed Railway Technology Co., the country's main railway technology provider, to make the country's railroads driverless.

CHSR signed a three-year framework cooperation agreement with Tencent Cloud Computing Co. to develop an autonomous driving system, the Beijing-based firm said in a statement.

The plan includes an unmanned operation system for railway lines and power supply stations. The pair will leverage Tencent's expertise in technologies such as mobile internet, Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence.

Under the agreement, Tencent will provide network and cloud computing capabilities, as well as internet security, while CHSR will offer operational maintenance equipment and a data platform to build infrastructure for smart railways.

This cooperation will utilize the strengths of both parties and will be of great significance for the development of unmanned railway operations, the statement concluded.
