(Yicai Global) Sept. 19 -- Novartis China signed a memorandum of cooperation with Tencent Holdings in Shanghai yesterday. The two will jointly develop medical innovations and create new digital treatments and healthcare services using advanced web-based technology.

Novartis and Tencent will first conduct pilot tests in medicine tracking, disease management and popularization of medical knowledge, while jointly creating practical novel patient care services and gradually promoting comprehensive health management spanning the entire human life cycle, per the memorandum.

The parties will work together to advance the process of informatization, digitization and smartification for healthcare, simplifying patients' recourse to treatment and improving their experiences. They will also research applying Big Data and artificial intelligence in clinical treatment and disease detection to develop healthcare in a full, balanced manner.

Novartis possesses an abundant range of product portfolios in China for the treatment of diseases of the metabolism, central nervous and immune systems, eye diseases, respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular ailments, high blood pressure and organ transplant-related complications.

The cooperation between Tencent and Novartis will start with the cardiovascular diseases deemed the top threat to the health of Chinese, bringing systematic, personalized and simple medication. Patients can access Tencent's medicine-tracking and other medical services through mini programs in Tencent's popular WeChat messaging and payment app and can also access comprehensive learning about diseases. They can also receive healthcare guidance and medication reminders through tailored apps.
