Tencent Founder, Executives Plan to Buy Four Seasons Resort as Part of Consortium

(Yicai Global) Feb. 17 -- A consortium of Hong Kong-based private equity fund Gaw Capital Partners and some individuals including Pony Ma, Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s [HKG:0700] founder, is looking to buy the Four Seasons Resort in Bora Bora, French Polynesia, Reuters reported.

The consortium hopes to borrow up to EUR100 million (USD151 million) to buy the famous resort from French financial institution Thierry Barbion, two insiders said.

The consortium's members include Tencent president Martin Lau and chief strategy officer James Mitchell, Brandon Beck, co-founder of Riot Games, a Tencent subsidiary, Neil Shen, managing partner of Sequoia Capital China, and Askar Alshinbayev, managing partner of private equity firm Meridian Capital Group LLC, Reuters said.

Gaw Capital's hotel portfolio includes InterContinental in Hong Kong and Hyatt Regency Hotels in Osaka, Japan and Danang, Vietnam.
