(Yicai Global) Aug. 9 -- Internet behemoth Tencent Holdings's smart medical arm Doctorwork will join with clinic startup Trusted Doctors to create the largest online-to-offline healthcare platform before Alibaba.

Tencent Doctorwork signed a merger agreement with Shanghai-based Trusted Doctors to unite into Tencent Trusted, the Shenzhen-based firm said in a statement. Next, the pair will establish a service network, striving to offer everyone the access to quality healthcare services through technology.

The parties will speed up the construction of a quality healthcare service system that covers major cities and groups nationwide, said Wang Shirui, the founder of Tencent Doctorwork and chief executive of Tencent Trusted.

Tencent's archrival, Alibaba Group Holding, restructured its medical assets in May to form a healthcare unit that can offer more efficient, smart care in the medical services market that is deemed to grow into CNY16 trillion (USD2.3 trillion) business by 2030.

Tencent Doctorwork was founded in 2016 by the tech company and venture capital firm Sequoia Capital China and runs 23 clinics in cities including Beijing and Chengdu, while planning to open 20 more clinics across China within three years.

The merger of Tencent Doctorwork and Trusted Doctors marks a win-win partnership regarding their strengths of online-offline medical service operation, Mu Yifei, executive director of Tencent Investment said.
