(Yicai Global) April 12 -- China’s Tencent Cloud has opened its first internet data center in Indonesia and plans to open a second within the next 12 months to meet increasing demand for cloud computing services in the country and Southeast Asia.

Located in the capital city of Jakarta, the hub will provide services such as elastic computing, storage, and security, to clients in Indonesia and the surrounding region, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported today, citing the Shenzhen-based company. The investment amount was not disclosed.

With the launch, Tencent Cloud now operates 61 hubs in 27 regions worldwide. Its overseas data centers have been set up in South Korea, Japan, India, Singapore, the United States, Germany, Russia, Canada, Thailand and other places.

Indonesia’s population is young and the nation has a highly developed mobile internet and a huge number of internet users. It is also one of fastest-growing public cloud services markets in the Asia-Pacific region, with compound annual growth of 25 percent, according to third-party data.

Tencent Cloud already serves a wide range of clients in the Indonesian market, meeting the varied needs of businesses in financial services, e-commerce, entertainment, gaming and education. That includes supporting Joox, Asia’s most popular music and entertainment streaming platform, in the country.

The online video platform WeTV also serves customers in Indonesia with Tencent Cloud support.
