(Yicai Global) July 26 -- Internet titan Tencent Holdings' cloud tech unit and medical information affiliate will team up with a drug retailer to make an online platform to review prescription medicines.
Tencent Cloud Computing and Mediway signed a cooperation agreement with Wuhan-based Jiontown Pharmaceutical under which the three firms will develop an information sharing platform, Tencent-affiliated DHC Software, which is Mediway's parent, said in a statement on Wednesday. The application will allow pharmacies to verify the authenticity of doctors' prescriptions and patients to check whether the specific drug fits their diagnosis. The three companies agreed to discuss the financial sides of the project later.
The partnership aims to bring a host of online medical services together, linking up with insurance companies, hospitals, and drug regulators. Tech-wise, the platform will apply emerging technologies such as cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, and blockchain.
Last May, Tencent bought a 24.69 percent stake in Beijing's Donghua Chengxin Computer Technology Development, which is the parent of DHC Software, to jointly develop smart medical records with speech input.
