(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Tencent Holdings, one of China's biggest cloud providers, has teamed up with yet another carmaker by agreeing to build a smart network connecting vehicles made by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The cloud will allow for remote control and diagnostics and location-based services in Jeeps, Maseratis and Alfa Romeos, Beijing Business Daily reported today. The pair will also build a user account system that to help Fiat better understand its users and their needs.

Car travel is an important application in Tencent's exploration of the industrial internet, said Tang Daosheng, senior executive vice president. The company is committed to becoming a digital assistant and connector to upgrade the travel sector by using core technologies to offer automotive solutions, he added.

The firm already has 15 Internet of Vehicles partnerships in place, including one with German auto titan BMW. Those allies are developing some 45 models using Tencent's cloud networks, and over 300 of the tech giant's partners now offer services to the automotive industry.

With Fiat, it plans to extend ties by developing new features in the travel and in-car entertainment sectors, such as voice-controlled services.
