TAL Education, Tsinghua University to Set Up Research Center for AI-Based Smart Classes

(Yicai Global) Oct. 18 -- Online education provider TAL Education Group [NYSE:XRS] and the Department of Computer Science and Technology at world-renowned Tsinghua University will set up the Smart Education Information Technology Joint Research Center for creating smart classes based on artificial intelligence technology, the company said in a press briefing yesterday.

"The cooperation with Tsinghua University will not only benefit higher education; its achievements in scientific research will also benefit primary and secondary schools, accelerating cooperation among enterprises, scientific research institutions and universities and colleges," said Huang Yan, a TAL executive.

Tsinghua University has cutting-edge development experience in managing and mining Big Data and deep learning models, while TAL's AI Lab has extensive amounts of education data and sophisticated experience in the sector. The firm has widely applied its Magic Mirror System, IPS, ITS and other intelligent teaching systems based on artificial intelligence technologies at schools and education institutes, China.com reported on Oct. 17.

The research center will apply visual, speech recognition and natural language processing technology to develop teaching services under TAL's Learning & Thinking Program, a training institution for primary and secondary school students.
