(Yicai Global) Oct. 25 -- Sugar futures climbed today boosted by Brazilian data on sugar production.
The main future contract for sugar due in January closed at CNY6,375 (USD960) per ton, up 2.25 percent, after hitting CNY6,384 per ton, the highest since Sept. 6, earlier.
In the first half of this month, the Brazilian sugar mills raised the proportion of sugar cane to produce ethanol, reducing the sugar cane ratio for sugar, data show.
The central and southern sugar mills in Brazil upped the proportion of sugar cane for production of ethanol to 56 percent, compared with 53 percent in the second half of September, which consequently impacted on sugar production, leading to 12.2 percent less output over the same period last year.
Brazil is the world's largest producer and exporter of sugar, with sugar cane cultivation in central and southern regions accounting for 90 percent of the country's total production.
