(Yicai Global) Feb. 14 -- Food safety authorities in Singapore have suspended operations at a local branch of Sichuan Haidilao Catering Co., China’s biggest chain of hotpot restaurants, for two weeks due to unclean food and a lack of hygiene among the location’s staff.
A routine food safety check of the Chengdu-based firm’s eatery found that staff were not using gloves, United Morning Post reported, and the restaurant’s operator will carry out necessary refurbishments at the branch lasting around 50 days.
The company has also reached out to two food safety certification bodies to conduct spot checks on food used at its branches and ensure safety. The National Environment Agency of Singapore fined Haidilao USD607 (SGD800) following the inspection.
Haidilao runs seven locations in Singapore, as well as several branches in the U.S., South Korea and Japan.
