(Yicai Global) Feb. 7 -- Shipments of three China mobile phone brands ranked in the world's top five to log a swift increase, show global smartphone shipment figures for last year recently issued by third-party US statistics agency International Data Corp. (IDC).
A total of 1.47 billion phones were shipped in the global smartphone market in 2016 for an all-time high, but only marking growth of 2.3 percent over 2015.
Samsung Electronics Co. [KRX:005930] supplied 311 million to cling on to first place, followed by the Apple Inc. [NASDAQ:AAPL] iPhone, which racked up 215 million. The deliveries of the three China's mobile phone brands, those of Huawei Electronics Corp., OPPO Electronics Corp. and VIVO Electronics Corp., were 139 million, 99.4 million and 77.3 million, respectively, thus claiming the third, fourth and fifth spots.
Last year's shipments of Samsung and iPhones both notched annual declines, however, as the former was down seven percent, whereas the three Chinese brands maintained rapid growth, with Huawei, OPPO and VIVO up 30 percent, 113 percent and 133 percent in that order.
