(Yicai) Jan. 30 -- Shenzhen in southern Guangdong province and Chengdu in southwestern Sichuan province have become the fifth and sixth Chinese cities to have logged more than CNY1 trillion (USD141 billion) in annual retail sales of consumer goods last year.

Chengdu’s retail sales of consumer goods soared 10 percent to just over CNY1 trillion last year from the year before, the Chengdu Bureau of Statistics announced on Jan. 26.

Shenzhen has become the second city in Guangdong after Guangzhou to have achieved the milestone of CNY1 trillion in retail sales of consumer goods, according to a statement released by the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress on Jan. 23.

The Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress did not unveil the specific figure for Shenzhen, but the city’s bureau of statistics said earlier that retail sales of consumer goods jumped 7.3 percent to CNY950 billion (USD132.4 billion) in the first 11 months of last year from a year earlier. In 2022, Shenzhen’s retail sales of consumer goods totaled CNY970.8 billion.

The three other Chinese cities with retail sales of consumer goods exceeding CNY1 trillion are Shanghai, Beijing, and Chongqing, with the former ranking first with CNY1.85 trillion in 2023.
