Shenzhen Airport Adopts Facial Recognition Technology for Security Checks

(Yicai Global) July 12 -- After a two-month trial, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport has become China's first airport to use facial recognition technology for security checks, a system that is helpful in identifying fake identification documents.

From now on, a camera will take a snapshot of a passenger's face that will be compared with the image on the person's ID, while security staff check the passenger's other information. The system will be in operation at all the airport's security checkpoints by the end of this month.

The first two security checkpoints at Shenzhen airport to use the system identified 10 people with false IDs, accounting for nearly 30 percent of passengers recently apprehended with fake documentation at the southern airport.
